The weighbridge in disrepair
The weighbridge before restoration
The Rotary Club of Wendouree and the City of Ballarat combined for the restoration. The Rotary Club of Wendouree, Vic., has helped to bring the history-drenched weighbridge at Windermere back to life. The club served with the City of Ballarat, Vic., in the project. Rotarians provided the labour and the Council provided $A1,500 for paint and new parts. The Cobb & Co. mail coach serviced Windermere twice daily before the coming of the railway line. Windermere station was constructed in the 1880s with additions and extensions. Initially it was referred to as No. 692 until the site was named.
Rotary Club members & partners do a weigh-in
2.5 tonnes of volunteers - members and partners gather for a group picture on the weigh table of the restored Windermere weighbridge.
The Cobb & Co. mail coach serviced Windermere twice daily before the coming of the railway line. Windermere station was constructed in the 1880s with additions and extensions. Initially it was referred to as No. 692 until the site was named. A new station was built in 1959 and figures show the station was busy transporting more than 5,000 tonnes of meadow hay as well as oats, sheep and passengers in 1962. The weighbridge fell into disrepair with a downturn in rail traffic, however a revival in interest in district history has seen the weighbridge restored. Guests at the official opening of the restoration had their own weigh-in, tipping the scales at a combined 2.5 tonnes
